Tour Details
Some days are made for depth rather than distance. This is one of them.
Beginning in the layered streets of Alfama — Lisbon's oldest district, built over the Moorish city that preceded the Christian reconquest — your Lisbon Sintra private day tour opens the day with the panoramic view from Miradouro da Graça, the austere beauty of the Lisbon Cathedral, and the particular atmosphere of a neighbourhood that has resisted every attempt to modernise it.
From there, the day moves to Belém — the monumental quarter where Portugal launched its Age of Discovery. We'll admire the magnificent façade of Jerónimos Monastery, one of the finest examples of Manueline architecture in the world, and the Belém Tower from the outside, taking in its full scale and detail before the obligatory stop at Pastéis de Belém, where the original recipe has been kept since 1837.
The scenic drive to Sintra follows — 45 minutes through the protected forest of the Serra de Sintra, one of the most beautiful approaches to any town in Portugal. In Sintra, the morning gives way to a relaxed lunch at a curated local restaurant, pre-booked by MBV, before the afternoon unfolds at one of the town's extraordinary royal palaces.

Tour Plan
Alfama & Historic Lisbon
Private meet-and-greet at hotel or residence. Departure from central Lisbon. Your driver-guide begins with an orientation of the city as you move through the neighbourhoods. Alfama is the oldest district in Lisbon, built over the Moorish city that preceded the Christian reconquest.
Key stops: the Miradouro da Graça (finest panoramic view over the rooftops and the Tagus), the Lisbon Cathedral (Sé), and a walk through the Alfama lanes. Time is unhurried — this is a walk, not a checklist.
Belém District
The monumental heart of Portugal’s Age of Discovery. Visits to the exterior and surrounds of the Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery (the finest Manueline building in existence). Mandatory stop: Pastéis de Belém at the original 1837 pastry house — the only address that matters.
Scenic drive to Sintra ~45 minutes through the Serra de Sintra hills. The approach road to Sintra through the national park is one of the most beautiful short drives in Portugal.
Sintra Palace Visit
Lunch in Sintra’s historic centre. Free time at a curated restaurant pre-selected by MBV — traditional Portuguese cuisine in the heart of the village.
One palace included and pre-booked by MBV — no queue, timed entry guaranteed. Choice of:
- Pena Palace — the defining image of Sintra: a Romantic-era palace of coloured towers perched above the forest canopy, with extraordinary views to the Atlantic. The most spectacular visually.
- Quinta da Regaleira — a neo-Manueline estate with an elaborate garden, an initiatic well descending underground, and a genuinely mysterious atmosphere. Best for clients who want something beyond the conventional.
- Monserrate Palace — the most serene and least crowded option: a Moorish-Gothic fantasy surrounded by botanical gardens. For clients who prefer depth over spectacle.
MBV recommends the palace based on the client profile and date — all three are extraordinary; the right choice depends on the group.
Return drive to Lisbon ~40 minutes via the A37/IC19.
